Philosophy:
What does this word mean to you?
Definition:
The study of the nature of knowledge, reality and existence. Basically everything we do not have answers to.
Why do you think we study this subject?
Develops the following:
Critical thinking
Closed reading
logical analysis
learn how to ask questions
learn how to respond to questions.
Verbal and written communication
Problem solving
Clear and disciplined thinking.
Persuasive reasoning.
Innovative questioning.
independent work.
Critical research skills

Task 1:
Can you name any famous philosophers?
Can you name any female philosophers?

Task 2

Female philosophers have been incredibly influential throughout the history of humankind, however not many people know who they are or what they achieved.

Choose one of the female philosophers in the wheel on fame opposite.

​

You are going to be researching this philosopher.

With your chosen philosopher you are going to be creating a profile about her, similar to the ones I have on my walls in my classroom and the picture below.

Your profile must include the following:

Success Criteria

  • Include the philosophers name as a clear title.

  • Picture of the philosopher.

  • The years they were alive.

  • A summary f their contribution to philosopher and what they are most famous for.

  • 5 quick, interesting facts about them.

  • A quote from them.

Task 3

Whatsapp, FaceTime or text a friend who has finished this task.

You are going to be teaching each other about the philosopher you have both finished researching.

​

You have 2 minutes to teach the other about your philosopher  and to write down the information about her.

​

​

4 minutes in total.

​

You must do this with at least 2 different friends, so you have information on a total of at least 3 philosophers in total.

​

Once done  answer the following reflective question.
