There was once a man travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho.

On the way he was attacked by robbers.
​
They took all his food, water, money and clothes.

Then a Samaritan came along, he was considered an enemy.

When he saw the man's condition, he was moved with sympathy and helped him.

Luckily, a priest happened to be going down the same road, but when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by.

Next a Levite (a priest's assistant) saw him lying there, but he too passed by on the other side of the road and ignored him.

Kneeling beside him, the Samaritan cleaned his wounds and bandaged them.

Then he lifted him onto his donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.

In the morning he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper.

"Take good care of him" he said. "If it costs any more, put it on my bill - I'll pay you on my way back through."
