Purpose of Punishment

There are several different reasons for the punishments we give out across the world.

More specifically there are four main reasons why.

Deterrence

Make the punishment so bad everybody would be too scared to do the 'bad' action.

Reform

Making changes to make a person 'better'.

Retribution

Punishment given out as a form of revenge for the victim/ victims' family.

Protection

Keep society and people safe by keeping 'bad' people away from them.
